A beautiful horizon, a jewel in the sun
Barcelona’s natural position as the economic and lifestyle capital of the Mediterranean means it is not only an attractive place to do business, but is positioned as the gateway to southern Europe, a bridge to the Maghreb and a platform to Latin America. As the only city in southern Europe that concentrates, in just over 5 square kilometres, one a major port, a high-speed train station, an international airport, motorways linked to the European network, the second biggest trade fair site in Europe and one of the biggest logistic zones in southern Europe, it’s connectivity and infrastructure credentials cannot be understated.
Matching these strengths is a desire, backed by the necessary investment, to drive economic growth through a focus on innovation and certain high added value strategic sectors, such as ICT, biotechnology, energy, media and design, among others.
Barcelona’s recent hosting of the Mobile World Congress served to underpin its credentials as a hub for events, high tech industry and innovation. Coupled with the development of the 22@ district, Barcelona is well place as a global leader amongst smart cities, and recognised by the EU as the European Capital of Innovation.
